Miles' busy week

This week was a busy week for us...

Tuesday - we had a follow-up appointment with the Cardiologist for Miles (in case you didn't know). They did an EKG and everything looks and sounds normal! Yay! They want us to come back in one year to get an Echo. Fine by me.

Wednesday - Was his well child check-up. He's healing great from his surgery. They taught me a couple tricks to get his muscle stronger on the right side of his neck. He prefers looking to the right the majority of the time so we don't want his one muscle to be shorter than the other. They want us to focus on making noise, talking, putting toys, etc. on his left side so he will work on turning his head to strengthen that muscle. We can also stretch out his left arm which will give him an automatic reaction to turn his head. He also got two shots :( So sad. He cried so hard and then we went across the street to get his Synagis shot. He cried even harder.

Thursday - Was his follow-up with the Pulmonary clinic. His chronic lung disease is no longer an issue! Right now anyway. So hopefully things will continue to be fine. We have another follow-up in two months. He also got some blood work done to check the level of carbon dioxide in his blood to make sure it wasn't too high. Also to check and see if he was still anemic. Which is why he was on iron. The results came back normal so we are officially done with two out of four of his medications. Yay! We just have to watch for any changes in his breathing.

Friday - We had an appointment with the Wonderland Developmental Center. An OT and a Special Educator came to evaluate Miles' current developmental skills. They expect him to be were a 1 months old would be (which is what his corrected age is, 7 weeks). We did a number of exercises to see his strengths in lifting his head, gripping toys, looking at and following objects, reactions to noises/touch and speech. With how early he was they were excited to see that he was on track with most area's. He's right were he should be if not ahead. They want us to work with him on his head movement...to strengthen that muscle. They also want us to work on getting him to react to noise. These are no concerns though. They are also encouraging us to get him to do things that a 4 month old would do (his real age) just to see if he can pick them up. If he can't then he's still where we want him to be. What else...oh, this appointment was to see if he would qualify for their special education program which he DOES NOT! That is a good thing. That means, as of right now, he doesn't need any extra help. Yay! If we feel that he does in the future then we can contact them again...

So, as busy and exhausting this week was, it was all very encouraging and has made me feel more at ease and comfortable with Miles and his growth. It also makes things feel a little more normal.
