The journey continues. Scratch the 3 day method. It would probably work but this last weekend I had many things to do and could not spend every minute at home to focus on the number one and two's. I was anxious to get started on potty training so I did it anyway and it is going well. Kainen loves using the toilet and is eager to learn, we still have a long way to go but it's going and that's all I care about.
I started out by just taking him to the toilet every 45 minutes to an hour which was working but then I realized that it's not teaching him to recognize when he needs to go and to tell me. He just goes when I say. So I started to put a little more trust in him and I am trying to wait for him to tell me when he needs to go but that hasn't worked yet. He goes in his pants and then tells me.
Yesterday I went out and bought a few things that I think will help him (and me). I bought a book for him that tells him how boys are supposed to go, standing up to go potty and sitting down to go poop...if you didn't know already ;) He was excited about the standing up part (normally we sit down to do both) and wanted to try it right away, he struggles with it but he almost always makes it in the toilet which is good and we brought out his potty chair again so it would be the right height for him. We also bought some Kandoo wipes and foaming soap for him so doesn't forget to wash his hands after and a pad to put on his bed for those nights he sleeps without a diaper which I'm not ready for...
So we are all set. Oh and yesterday I took him away from the house without a diaper on and it went well. It was just over to a friends to babysit for an hour but hey it's away from the comfort of our home.
